Carlos Alcaraz wins the 2024 edition of Roland Garros and becomes the youngest male tennis player to achieve this. With this victory, Alcaraz stands out for having won three Grand Slam finals on the three surfaces.
The 21-year-old player from Murcia and Ferrero Tennis Academy tennis player, is ranked number 3 in the ATP rankings and has just become the youngest to win a Roland Garros and, in addition, to have won on grass, clay and hard courts. This makes Carlos Alcaraz the most complete tennis player in history at his age.
On the list of the youngest tennis players who have managed to reach Grand Slam finals on the three courts, there are: Andre Agassi, Bjorn Borj, Rafael Nadal and Jim Courier, all of them at 22 years old. In addition to the victory he took in Paris, Alcaraz has won two other Grand Slams: the US Open 2022 and Wimbledon 2023.
On this occasion, Roland Garros 2024 is the second tournament in which Alcaraz has reached the semi-finals and the first time he has taken the title. The match against the German Alexander Zverev ended in five sets: 6 – 3, 2 – 6, 5 – 7, 6 – 1 and 6 – 2; and nearly 4 hours of tournament time on the Philippe Chartier court.
Before the tournament, there were nine Spaniards who had been champions at Roland Garros, including Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2003, where the final was against Martin Verkerv of the Netherlands. With this new victory, Carlos Alcaraz is the tenth Spanish player to win this Grand Slam and the first to do so at just 21 years old.
